Home made fancy dress ideas for pirates
Men’s pirate costumes – Ragged pirate - Cut the hems off a pair of old black or grey trousers and use the scissors to fray the ends. Take an old shirt and cut the arms off to just below the elbow, and cut the ends of the sleeves to make a ragged edge. Find an old red sheet, or shirt, and cut this into strips for a wide belt and cut a narrower strip to make a bandana.
Sophisticated pirate - You can wear a black or white silk shirt, a pair of dark trousers and a red bandana. Wear an eye patch (see details below) and use face paints or theatrical make up to create a scar.
Women’s pirate costumes – Sexy pirate –Cut the hem of a tight fitting skirt into a slant. Make it short and cut the hem into jagged strips. Take a white bra top, or cut up an old T shirt, and wear a tight waistcoat over the top, if you have one that laces up, leave a gap as you lace it, and make sure the waistcoat shows your midriff. Wear a pair of black fish net stockings and high heels to finish it off. You can wear an eye patch with this costume, or a bandana. Saucy pirate/ buxom wench – This is a gorgeous costume for plus size ladies, it shows off their figures beautifully. Wear a long full skirt and white peasant blouse for a buccaneer look. Find a long flowing skirt – a sixties skirt is perfect, and wear a wide belt to pull in your waist. Wear a white blouson top, ideally with puffed short sleeves. Tuck the blouse into the skirt and wear thong shoes or ankle boots. You’ll need lots of long necklaces to finish off this costume. Carry a sword, wear an eye patch and wear a head bandana. A neckerchief tied round your wrist is a great touch.
Kids’ pirate costumes – Kid’s pirate fancy dress- Pirate costumes are suitable for boys, girls and teens. A lot of children will have some form of pirate costume, so improvise and build on what you have. Or start from scratch, using old clothes.
Girls pirate costume – Use one of her old skirts and cut the hemline into a ragged edge. Take an old shirt, cut the sleeves off to above the elbow, and make the edges ragged by cutting the material into points. Wrap a piece of fabric around her waist to form a belt and another piece around her head to make a head band. Have a go at making the home made eye patch and wear this to complete the pirate costume.
Home made Eye patch –You’ll need – An old cereal box Black paint and paintbrush Scissors A piece of elastic
Method Cut an eye patch shape from an old cereal box, and paint it black. Measure enough elastic to fit comfortably round your head and add 1 cm. When the eye patch is dry, make a hole on both sides of the eye patch with a pair of scissors or thick needle (use a piece of blu tack to support the back of the eye patch while you do this). Thread the elastic through the holes and tie a knot in the ends, to prevent the elastic from slipping through.
