Mens Fancy DressMens Fancy DressMens Fancy DressAre you stuck for ideas for a men’s fancy dress costume? It’s not too hard to make a costume from articles you already have in your wardrobe or around the house. Use the tips below as a guide and then improvise.
Mens Fancy dress ideas -
Sailor costume –Take a pair of white trousers and a pair of black shiny shoes. Add a white V necked top and you have the basics of a men’s sailor costume. Wear a black tie, loosely tied round your neck to complete the costume. You’ll need a white sailor hat. Your local butcher may have disposable white hats that are perfect to use as a sailor hat. If you’re a regular customer he may give it to you, but be prepared to pay a small charge if he’s never seen you before.
Pirate costume – To make a perfect pirate fancy dress outfit, take a black shirt and cut off the arms just above the elbows. Make some bold cuts into the sleeves, to turn the straight edges into tatters. For the trousers, use a pair of black lightweight trousers and cut them off just below the knee. Using the same style of cuts to the trousers as the shirt, turn the trousers into tattered knee breeches. Wear a large leather belt, or piece of rope around the waist, and a pair of thongs or pumps. Use a strip of the discarded material to make a roughly edged bandana.
Army fancy dress – If you or your friends have some army combats, they make a great fancy dress costume. Add some camouflage face paints and a pair of heavy boots. A water pistol or rifle is perfect for getting attention.
Gangster – Wear a pinstripe suit; blue or black are good colours for this costume. Add a black shirt, white silk tie and black shiny shoes. Finish it off with a Trilby hat. If you haven’t got one, ask your parents, or parents’ friends to see if they have one you can borrow. Carry a toy gun and your set to go.
60’s and 70’s & 80’s fancy dress– Ask your parents and grandparents if they have any vintage clothing in their wardrobe that you can borrow. Floral shirts, pointed collar’ shirts and psychedelic shirts are all perfect for 60’s, 70’s and 80’s fancy dress. Wear a pair of bell bottomed trousers or flares to complete the outfit. You can wear a long wig with John Lennon’ glasses for a hippie look, or wear a wig with a bandana tied round for a great Glastonbury hippie look.
