Ladies Fancy DressLadies Fancy DressLadies Fancy DressMany people love dressing up for fancy dress parties. There are loads of fancy dress ideas to choose from, and you can usually find enough odds and ends lying around the house, to make your own.
Make your own fancy dress
Ladies pirate fancy dress – Start with a fitted black dress. It can be short or long, the choice is yours. Take a shorter skirt and shred it into tatters or cut it into four or five pointed sections, and wear this over the top of the fitted dress. Use a piece of red material, cut from an old shirt, for a sash and cut a smaller piece to use as a headband. Wear long black boots and an eye patch.
60’s fancy dress – This is an easy costume to make; if you have a basic knowledge of sewing. Take a pair of skinny jeans, or the tightest jeans you have. Cut off the legs to about two inches below the knee. Use the cut off material for a pattern, and cut a piece of fabric at least four times longer, out of an old shirt or blouse. Using a large stitch, run a gathering line around the top of the fabric. Gather the new legs and stitch them onto the cut off jeans. Use the brightest and gaudiest material you can find. Cut an old T shirt off to about three inches above the midriff and wear lots of long hippie jewellery to complete the costume.
Ladies 70’s costumes – For a 70’s costume, wear a pair of long boots or over the knee boots with a short tunic dress. The shorter the better. You will probably have some tops in your wardrobe that will be perfect for a 70’s dress. A headband in a matching fabric will finish this outfit off.
Fairy costume or Tinkerbel l– Any silky fitted or sheath dress can form the starting point of a fairy costume. Tinkerbell wore green, but any colour will look good. Cut the hem into tatters; don’t worry if they aren’t uniform, the ‘ragged look’ works well for a fairy outfit. Wear a pair of fairy wings and high heeled shoes or ankle boots to finish it off. Alternatively, for a dark, fairy look, use a black dress with a corset worn over the top. This looks good with a pair of high boots or over the knee boots.
Ladies Halloween costumes – To make a blood soaked Halloween costume, take any long dress, with or without sleeves, and use paint, felt tip or fake blood to spatter the whole dress in blood-like stains. Wear a long wig with the same spatter marks.
