Is your wardrobe well stocked? It’s good to have fancy dress costumes on hand to cope with different occasions. If you are discriminating, these types of items will serve you well, and it is up to you how much or little you spend on them.
Dresses and suits play a huge part in lots of outfits and can be dressed up, cut down or just tweaked to give you an admirable outfit. Accessories such as wigs and facial hair can transform an ordinary pair of trousers and shirt into a 70s hip disco man, and for the 70s lady, try shortening the hem of an old dress to make a mini dress. Add a hair band and some large hooped earrings for a 70s chick look.
It’s always good to keep an open mind when looking through your wardrobe. A few evening dresses can double as fancy dress costumes. Audrey Hepburn or the 60s icon dress is a classic. A long black evening gown can be worn to a dinner party and later you can add strands of pearls and a cigarette holder to turn a simple black number into a sixties fashion item.
A good pair of jeans and a check shirt can be teamed with a cowboy hat to create a western style. Or the Ladies can wear a fashionable long flowery skirt with a T shirt and waistcoat to create a flower power hippie look. A long wig would go well with this, but it isn’t necessary. Hair styles of the 60s and 70s were both long and short, so this will look suit everybody and can be put together for little cost.
The key to this is to choose quality clothing. If you buy a cheap dress, you’re clearly not going to wear it after the party. One tip is to look in boutiques and normal places you would shop for dresses, and get creative with the accessories. Hats, wigs, beards and make up can dress up or down any clothing and turn it into something exciting.
