Orlando Bloom’s full name is a bit of a mouth at Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom. He’s an Aquarius born on 13 January 1977. Orlando came bursting into our lives with his huge part and character in Lord Of The Rings in 2001 as the elf prince Legolas. The epic film trilogy was a massive success at the box office and was a break through for Orlando in his acting career. Born in Canterbury, UK Bloom has quite a saf tale of his family life. He lost his father at an early age of 4 years old, Orlando and his sister Samantha were brought up by their mother, Sonia, and a close friend of the family, Colin Stone. Later on in life at the tender age of 13 his mother actually confessed that Colin was his biological father.
Orlando has always showed an interest and talent in the acting and performing industry, he attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and featured in small roles in many UK TV series including Casualty, Midsomer Murders and Smack the Pony. It was only two days after graduating he was cast for a part for The Lord of the Rings. Originally this casting was for the part of Faramir a smaller role, but Peter Jackson, the director, cast him in a prominent role as Legolas. From the success of Lord Of The Rings Orlando landed a great role alongside Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl, which later turned out to be a trilogy. Here Orlando sported some amazing pirate fancy dress costumes for his character Will Turner a blacksmith who sets sail to save the woman he loves from evil pirates. Bloom’s wardrobe consisted of white tights, pirate boots, and leather ensembles adding to his edgy pirate image. The Pirates movie was a raging success and was a blockbuster hit for the summer of 2003. From here he has gone on to star alongside Brad Pitt in Troy, and play the lead man in Kingdom of Heaven and Elizabethtown.
Bloom’s acting career is not the only thing that has been successful lately, in 2007 Orlando met his soon to be wife Australian model Miranda Kerr, they were married in 2010 and in 2011 they gave birth to their first son, Flynn on 6 January, another Aquarius in the family.
Bloom is known for being a genuine and down to earth guy. He has even commented that he tries to ‘not exclude himself from real life as much as possible’. He lives in London and is a Manchester United football fan. He is a practising Buddhist, and rescued a dog whilst on the set of Kingdom of Heaven in Morrocco. Orlando has a tattoo of the number 9 on his right wrist to symbolise his character from Lord Of The Rings as there were 9 members of the Fellowship of the Ring, and all of the actors got the same tattoo. Orlando is quite accident prone, he has had several broken bones, including his rib when he fell of the horse in Lord of the Rings, broke his leg skiing in Switzerland, broke his other leg in a motorbike crash, broke his right wrist snowboarding, and has also broken his back when he slipped and fell off the roof. This was a very serious break and the Doctors were worried he was going to be paralysed, fortunately Orlando made a full recovery.
