Whether it’s an official childrens fancy dress costume, or a home made outfit, your child will already have an image of his perfect outfit; all that’s needed is for you to find out what it is.
Appeal
The most important point is that the outfit appeals to your child. He has no trouble deciding what he likes, so discuss his first choice and make sure he will be comfortable wearing the whole outfit. Will he like the accessories? Some childrens fancy dress costumes are only effective if they are worn with the accessories. A Darth Vader costume worn without the mask will still look good, but won’t be as easily recognisable. A Fairy dress without the wings is fun, but won’t win any prizes.
Is the face painting stall the first thing your child heads for at the summer fete? If so, then choose a costume that looks good with face paintings. Fairies, Animals and Halloween costumes are good examples. If the costume includes a mask but your child’s not too keen to wear it, duplicate the mask using face paints. It works just as well and your child will be more comfortable.
Comfort
If your children aren’t comfortable, they will fidget, and the younger ones may even take their costumes off. Make sure the outfit is suitable for the time of year and temperature. A furry Animal costume is perfect to wear to a Christmas party, when the weather is cold, but your child will not be comfortable wearing this in a summer heat wave; so pick a costume to match the season.
Suitability
You have to ask yourself; is this Childrens Fancy Dress suitable for the party or event?. If your daughter is going to a boy’s party, where the majority of guests will be boys, she’ll be more at ease dressed in a girl’s pirate costume than a floaty princess outfit. The games will be rougher, and the long skirts of some girls’ costumes could hamper her enjoyment of the activities. Choosing a girly version of a boy’s costume is a good option. Girls’ Pirate Costumes are pretty and give her freedom to enjoy an activity party without worrying about her skirt getting in the way.
