Throwing a Halloween party is easy. If it’s the first time you’ve organised a party in your home, these tips may help you get organised.
Your Halloween fancy dress party can be themed or open. So you must decide whether to restrict the choice of outfits to a set theme, or leave your guests to choose their own fancy dress costumes. Ghosts, witches, Star Wars or even a wider topic, such as film characters are all excellent subjects.
Make sure your guests can easily find costumes. A pirate party is a good example. There are loads of costumes to choose from and most fancy dress stores will have them in stock. It’s as easy to find men’s costumes as it is to find women’s or children’s fancy dress. You can buy budget, regular or deluxe pirate costumes, so all your guests will find something to suit their budget. If you have the money, it’s worth paying extra for a good quality costume from the deluxe or luxury fancy dress range. There is an excellent costume based on Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. This can be worn for Halloween or for a regular fancy dress party at any time of year.
There’s a huge range of pirate’ costumes for ladies, including a maternity pirate costume for soon-to-be-mums. You can find long, mid length or short skirts and dresses in this fancy dress category. Sexy siren Pirate Costumes or traditional doubloon Pirate Costumes are gorgeous. They’re both colourful and look fabulous finished off with black high heeled shoes or boots.
Make sure the invitations you send out have all the necessary information clearly printed on them. The date, address, time and contact number need to be clearly printed on every invite. Add any extra information such as fancy dress themes and bring your own drinks, so people will know exactly what’s expected of them. Using Halloween themed invites will set the scene for the party. You can easily print your own or buy ready made invitations online.
Dressing the room is nice but not necessary. If you are creative this will be easy for you. If you dislike the idea of decorating the room, try to enlist the help of some arty friends or just declutter the room to make extra space.
Decide what food you’ll be serving. Keep it simple. You won’t want to spend your whole evening in the kitchen preparing and serving food. Consider employing an outside company to do your catering or order the food from a company that specialises in parties. Tell them you want food for a Halloween party. They should be able to serve some or all of the food on your fancy dress theme. There are some excellent people who will come into your own home to prepare and serve your food. They even leave your kitchen clean and tidy. This frees your time up to enjoy yourself. If you want to do the catering yourself, plan well in advance and write out a shopping list and a realistic timetable you can stick to. Buy the food online in advance and send friends out for the perishable items, like bread and fresh salads, on the morning of the party.
Drinks should be bought well in advance. Work out how much you’ll need and order everything online and have it delivered to your door.
Organise the music so you have something for everyone. Play spooky Halloween music as the guests arrive and when they are eating.
All in all it is your organisation skills that will bring the party together. And if things don’t go quite as planned, remember it’s a party for family and friends, so you will still have a fantastic Halloween party.
