Hurrah for fancy dress parties! It gives us the chance to wear exciting and fantastic costumes. Not just fancy dress clothes, but Accessories as well! Fancy dress has an abundance of Accessories and wearing the best accessories gives us a helping of reassurance. Shoes, tights, wigs and wings are fabulous accessories and bring life to the whole fancy dress costume.
Wings are a must have accessory. Most Fairy costumes come complete with wings but if you’ve made your dress or your fancy dress doesn’t include Fairy wings then buy a pair! Every fairy must have a pair of wings. Think magic, sparkle and fantasy! Butterfly wings, fairy wings, iridescent wings in any colour or fabric will do the job nicely. Match your outfit or go for a contrasting pair to make a statement.
Wings come plain or bedecked with jewels, sparkles and ribbons. They can have embroidered motifs or flowers and appliqués. If your costume is plain jazz it up with the ornate and decorated wings. Wings with appliqué or flowers are ideal for a plain outfit.
If you’ve got a pair of plain wings from last year’s Halloween fancy dress or hen party then dress them up yourself! Call at your local hobby store, sewing shop or online store and check out the hundreds of appliqués and trimmings you can buy. Delicates or bolds, they have masses of floral trims, feathers and butterflies.
If you’re wearing a decorative outfit, tone the wings down so you’re just wearing plain wings with a shine or shimmer. Fabrics should be soft and gauzy. If you’re storing a pair of old hen night’ wings with pink fluffy trim, tear it off! Replace it with a silver or gold brocade to hide the blemishes, or if they’re still intact wear them unadorned. Plain fairy wings look amazing in soft whites or silver colours without any embellishments.
