If you’re lucky enough to have been around in the 70s, choosing your fancy dress costumes will bring back memories of glam rock, Ladies in mini, midi and maxi skirts, and men with curly perms and dark moustaches. 70s costumes were tight, gaudy and sexy. Flared trousers, floral tops, Mamma Mia tunics and tight Lycra catsuits were worn as both day and night wear. Abba wore Dancing Queen shiny suits, John Travolta was the sexy disco icon in his 70s white flared suit, and the Star Wars characters gave us new worlds from which to source a huge range of fancy dress costumes. Harrison Ford’s Hans Solo and sidekick Chewbacca, make impressive costumes, or Princess Leia and Darth Vader are ideal for a couples goodie and baddie 70s costume. Flared trousers are a favourite. They balance out a pear shaped figure and still look sexy on the figure ones. Add a Hippie style top or tunic with some plastic beads and round John Lennon style glasses and you’ve recreated a significant 70s look. You can get some impressive looking long 70s wigs in every colour for men and ladies.
Add a bandanna, thin head band or some flowers to brighten up your costume. Thong style shoes with calf length straps will complement a flowing skirt or linen look flares. Platform shoes will show off a flared trouser suit and kipper tie beautifully.
If your outfit needs livening up, though this is unusual with seventies costumes, use bright make up and jewellery. Turn a drab tunic into a stylish 70s top with beads, bangles and pendants. Wear them all at once and finish off with huge jangly earrings. You can easily create the 70s style, by wearing vintage clothes, fancy dress costumes or the newer 70s style clothes that are prolific in the high street shops. Costume stores do particularly good lines of 70s style flared trousers, which are perfect for any party. Add a silky frilled Tom Jones style shirt and pair of platform shoes to complete this look. The hairy chest is optional, and can be found as an accessory.
