70s fancy dress can be sexy, fun or comfortable. Jeans and T shirts were common day wear, while sexy Lycra jumpsuits and flared trousers were worn at night.
Long flowing dresses and skirts were carried from the 60s through to the seventies and still looked gorgeous. Floaty materials and floral patterns gave the dresses and skirts their feminine look. While slinky fabrics gave us the Disco Queens.
The 70s Disco Lady costume has the Abba feel. It includes white trousers, top and belt. A long blonde Agnetha or a dark sultry Anni-Frid wig will complete the look.
Men were macho in tight trousers and large collared open necked shirts. Hairy chests were often visible. Hopefully the medallion worn round the neck was not.
The 70s Disco Man fancy dress includes a white waistcoat, jacket and trousers. Nothing goes better with this than a dark wig and moustache. The Disco Dude wig goes perfectly, and platform shoes complete the look. Shirts can be plain, silky or floral.
Top seventies magazines included Cosmopolitan, Woman and Home and Weight Watchers. You could find top albums from Queen, Saturday Night Fever and T Rex. Rod Stewart and David Essex were sex symbols. Glam rock, TV heroes and teeny bopper heart throbs were part of everyday life.
The Ladies Glam Rock Chick costume comprises of a jumpsuit, belt, arm cuffs and boot tops. Add the Rock Diva wig and some silver boots for a wild appearance. Make up should be heavy and dark, with accent on black and purple. Lightning bolts painted from eye to cheek is in keeping with the Glam rock theme.

The men’s equivalent is a shiny yellow frilled suit with stand up collar and belt, and nothing looks better with this disco outfit than a moustache and long wig.
