We’ve all had to find a 70s fancy dress costume at some time. Whether it was a seventies party or disco night, you will have needed to recreate the cool disco look. This era gave us diversity and colour, which makes it a popular theme for parties. Based on the seventies film and music industries, there is something for everyone in this genre. Seventies men wore bold colours and psychedelic patterns. Black was also a favourite, especially for shirts and trousers. Floral shirts sporting large lapels were teamed with flared trousers for everyday wear. Disco clothes were flamboyant with the iconic white suit usually reserved for the disco. Disco kings, pop stars and icons dazzled us with glitzy clothes and accessories. Elaborate decorations adorned jeans and tops. We studded, sequinned, ripped and patched our jeans and T shirts. In fact it was so popular that in 1973 Levi’s held a Denim Art Contest for all the arty fans. Glam rockers, punks and disco Ladies sent in photos of their finished jeans. Groovy stuff! And it was in 1978 when Calvin Kline introduced us to designer denim. It set off a mad spell of denim mania. Hats, shoes, bags and jackets were all in fashion. If it could be made in denim, it was; and if you are trying to recreate a 70s fancy dress look, then the denim patchwork flares are ideal. Wear them with a silk shirt and shag wig to add some seventies everyday culture to your outfit. Recreate the hip and cool Travolta style 70 s disco man, with our disco man costume. This men’s white suit includes trousers, waistcoat and a jacket. Add either a silky plain or frilled shirt. Or, check out the groovy lavender suit, which includes trousers, mock shirt and waistcoat, and a fully lined jacket. Both are perfect for grooving on the dance floor. Extreme 70s disco fancy dress for men is just as flamboyant for the men, as it is for the ladies. If you’ve seen the last scene of Mamma Mia you’ll know what we mean. Some of Abba’s greatest hits are performed in this memorable film, and the men’s frilled Lycra suits may be just what you are looking for. All-in-ones worn with platform shoes and wig will grace any dance floor. Pierce Brosnan carried it off, can you? What will make you stand out at the party? Memorable clothes! 1970s costumes and make up were outrageous, and if that’s what you are after, the glam rocker outfit should suit you perfectly. David Bowie was one of the most popular glam rockers of the seventies, along with Alice Cooper and T Rex. They wore plenty of heavy eye liner and eye shadow, so grab some face paints and be creative. The glam rocker theme is also ideal for groups or themed parties.
